Memphis – The Iconic Musical City That Goes Well Beyond the Blues

When Memphis comes to mind, Graceland and the musical icon Elvis Presley are usually at the beginning of every conversation. While a visit to Graceland is must-do, Memphis has so much more history and so many things to do that at the end of your Memphis experience you will be left with so many more memories beyond Elvis.

Graceland is a great spot to take in everything Elvis, but allow yourself to take in more of Memphis and all of their history. The Memphis Music Hall of Fame is not only a very affordable daily tour, but the Induction Ceremony, which takes place November 8th this year, always brings out some of the biggest names in music. How about visiting the legendary Sun Studio where Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. With so much musical history, you can imagine it brings plenty of up and coming musicians to this town, there are plenty of opportunities to find great live music every night of the week.

Memphis is home to some of the best barbecue in the United States as well as world-famous fried chicken from spots such as Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, but there are plenty of other amazing chefs popping up all over town. The Gray Canary from chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman opened in Old Dominick Distillery and allows you to enjoy the food of these James Beard Award finalists.

When it comes to places to stay, finding a beautiful hotel is not tough to do, but finding that perfect location and stunning view will make your trip even that much more special while you are in the heart of Memphis. One of the best spots in all of Memphis is the River Inn of Harbor Town. The River Inn is situated close to the Mississippi River in Downtown’s Harbor Town neighborhood and gives you a very classic Old South experience.
